August 22, 2017

I want to welcome everyone to the 2017 season. The Oakville Little League Board and volunteers have been working hard since the final out on Championship Day in 2016 preparing for 2017. Without dedicated board members and volunteers, Oakville Little League would not be the success that it is today.

I would like to extend the challenge to the parents across the many divisions to find a way to make a difference for your child by stepping up and volunteering just a bit of your time. It could be as simple as raking a field during Championship day. It is up to you…..

As we enter the baseball season we are very excited about the growth that Oakville Little League has experienced year over year. What this growth tells me is that we have many youth who are returning to play baseball in general. It also tells me that the league is doing some things that are having a positive impact in the community.

The prime focus of Oakville Little League is “Helping the youth of Oakville to develop citizenship, discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being through baseball”. We have been focused on this objective since the inception of the league in 1992.

While we focus on our House League program, we are also proud of the All-Star program which is derived from our House League program.

We are pleased to announce that we are hosting two significant tournaments in 2017. We are hosting the Junior Provincials from July 22nd – July 29th at Glen Abbey Park. We are also hosting the 20167 Minor Provincials from July 29th – August 5th at Cornwall Park. Both tournaments will have our very Whitecaps competing for this Championship. Be sure to come out and help as a volunteer or just enjoy some great baseball and cheer on your local team.

In addition to these two tournaments, we are hosting the Canada Day Classic over the Canada Day weekend. This tournament will include a Little League team form Pakistan coming into Canada to compete. In addition, we will have teams from all around Ontario and the USA participating. Come out during Canada Day weekend and get a chance to see Team Pakistan compete in this prestigious event.

I continue to hear positive comments about our program and while I am proud of these comments, the league continues to look for ways to improve the program in many ways. This year we saw an explosion of registrations and sad to say we had to turn layers away who tried to register in April. My recommendation is that if you are planning on registering for the 2018 season, don’t be disappointed and register after the 2017 season which is also the best time to take advantage of a significant cost savings.

I look forward to kicking off the season and once again will make every effort to visit each division throughout the season to watch the players in action and to speak to the parents for their input.

Have a great 2017 season and let’s make the season a great experience for the kids.

All the Best,

John Sweeney
