To our OLL Membership,
Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year – I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season!
The 2023 baseball season is around the corner and, with preparations well underway, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the Whitecaps Coordinator for the 2023 season. And if you just found yourself asking “What the heck is a Whitecap?” – we should definitely talk!
The OLL Whitecap program is a Select program that represents our League and our Town in tournament play. Teams in each age group are selected from interested House League players using evaluated workouts and the costs associated with the Whitecaps program are separate from those for House League. The goal of the program is to maintain a comprehensive, sustainable competitive program focused on player and personal development to represent OLL and the Town of Oakville with distinction.
But it’s so much more than that. I’ve been involved with OLL and Whitecaps for many years in various capacities and can’t say enough about the benefits of the program. For kids that want to play competitively at a higher level, it challenges and pushes development, both as a player and as a person. It teaches the value of hard work; rewards effort and commitment and demonstrates the value of teamwork and dependability. Most importantly, it’s a ton of fun!! Players and parents come out of the program with friendships and experiences that last a lifetime.
The lifeblood of the program is the young kids starting up in the 6-to-8-year-old age group. I can’t stress enough the benefits of getting into the program at a young age – the extra practice time and tournament experience do wonders for a child’s development as a player and as a person.
We’ll be having information sessions for players aged 9 and up and their families at the end of February, but we’ll be having a morning session for the younger kids in early February with lots of fun activities for them and the opportunity for parents and players to learn more about the program, its benefits and how to get involved. More details will follow and I strongly encourage everyone to attend their respective session and find out all Whitecaps has to offer!
If you have questions that aren’t addressed in the info sessions. please feel free to reach out to me at Whitecaps@oakvillelittleleague.com and I’ll be happy to get you the answers.
Thanks and I hope to see you all in February!!!
